Minutes from the January 19, 2010 meeting
MEDICARE and MEDICARE SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE:
Mike Clark, from Strategic Growth Insurance Associates who spoke to us about Medicare and Medicare supplement insurance. His company helps you through the maze of Medicare rules and options to assist “in finding cost-effective alternatives to meet current and future needs. These services are provided to Medtronic Retirees at NO COST. SGIA works with EVERY major health insurance carrier in your area to provide unbiased options and personalized assistance.” If you are Medicare eligible, you should review and compare all options each year. SGIA helps by providing a personalized spreadsheet of all options and makes recommendations on the best and most cost effective plan for you. A couple of important things to remember , the deadline for making annual Medicare supplement decisions is December 31 of each year. However, between January 1 and March 31 is the “open” enrollment period where you can make changes to your selection and SGIA will help at no cost to you. At least two retirees in attendance at the meeting have taken advantage of SGAI services and were extremely satisfied with the results. DENTAL INSURANCE:
Bob Graham of Graham Advisory Corporation and Norma Valles from Total Dental Administrators spoke on our retiree dental plan. Once again, there has been no premium rate increase (this is the fifth year)! Premiums are very favorable for MMC Retiree Club members (in my case, less than through AARP). TDA in an HMO dental plan and you must choose a dentist on the TDA list. There are hundreds of dentist to choose from and you can change dentists monthly, without penalty, if you need to. Thirty-eight of the sixty-five eligible retirees (those with paid up dues) have signed up for this benefit and have been satisfied with TDA.
